I don't take many photo's of birds, but I know a smaller birds such as a woodpecker can be very hard to get a good shot of. The bird in this image is very clear, I love the way the light hits its back.
Personally I like the idea you had to use a filter to create a background. You have separated the bird from the background well. (I am assuming you did this manually in photoshop.)
This makes the bird standout more, However the background is still a little distracting.
I don't like the lens flare, perhaps a slight motion blur would have looked better.
I would have perhaps positioned the bird differently within the frame. More to the left of the frame, to bring out the background. Or more centered, bringing all the attention to the bird.
Personally, I like this image. It is a nice bird and a nice shot.
However I believe it could be improved, a little bit.
